Rod & Reel Roadtrip 4I traveled to Orlando, FL, in late May for a media/marketing summit sponsored by Keith Alan’s Ultimate Fishing Experience. Two days before the summit, Keith sent me out on two urban Orlando lakes with his longtime friend and former co-worker at B.A.S.S./ESPN, Stacy Twiggs, now a guide and partner in Keith’s new venture. After much frustration with learning a new-to-me bass-fishing technique, I finally hooked and landed a 22.5-inch largemouth bass by punching hydrilla mats with a Texas-rigged black-and-blue creature bait with a 1.5-oz bullet sinker. Guide Stacy Twiggs’ Carrot Stix flippin’ stick helped to horse the hawg out of the thick, deep grass, but I did break the gears on Stacy’s baitcast reel when I set the hook. Whoops!
